Parenting Through Connection: Understanding Co-Regulation in Children
OASIS recently hosted an educational event in partnership with The NoCo Autism Connection on “Parenting Through Connection: Understanding Co-Regulation in Children.” In this workshop, Danielle Ripsam, OTR/L at OASIS, explored the concept of co-regulation and its importance in helping children manage their emotions and behaviors. She discussed how regulation is not just about being calm, but about adapting to different demands in various settings and how dysregulation can profoundly impact learning and relationships. Danielle shared strategies for recognizing triggers, using grounding techniques and supporting children through dysregulation, emphasizing the need for caregivers to be regulated themselves first.
We encourage you to complete four worksheets throughout the recorded presentation to reflect on your own triggers and develop follow-up strategies for your child. Please reach out to our clinic at OASIS Pediatric Therapy or your child’s therapist if you have any questions or need further support.
